Background: A large brown creature descended from the their average bear ancestors. During the cataclysm, the environment was rocked to its core and food became scarce. The ones who came out on top were the largest, stealing from the smaller ones and killing when they are resisted. The more savage ones turned to cannibalism, eating their brethren. The Giant Bear, while mostly docile, should be carefully avoided unless one wants to end up a meal in a Giant Bear's den. Their fur is a prized possession for traders, however.
